CNS Technology Announces Connectivity of CNS Monitor
with Blanketrol Hyper-Hypothermia System
Ambler, PA - October 19, 2009 - CNS Technology has announced the development of an interface for the Component Neuromonitoring System™ (CNS Monitor) to collect temperature data from the Blanketrol® III hyper-hypothermia system. The Blanketrol III, sold by Cincinnati Sub Zero, Inc., can be used to provide whole-body therapeutic hypothermia for patient populations such as adults who have suffered a cardiac arrest and newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Therapeutic hypothermia is a treatment where a patient's body temperature is lowered for the purpose of protecting brain function.
With this new interface, the CNS Monitor can collect the temperature information available from the Blanketrol system, including its water temperature, set point temperature, and patient core temperature. These temperatures are stored simultaneously with other data collected by the CNS Monitor, such as standard vital signs and neurological measurements.
"By integrating the temperatures of the Blanketrol III with EEG and cardio-respiratory vital signs into the CNS Monitor, we will have the capacity to observe in a single 'snapshot' view all of the pertinent physiologic parameters and record those parameters in a time-synchronized fashion," says Dr. Noah Cook, a neonatologist at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "The implications of this streamlined monitoring are enormous; I expect it will allow us to better understand the impact of temperature changes on other physiologic functions, and will provide the substrate for a multitude of potential analyses."
Additionally, "I believe it will improve the accuracy of our bedside vital-sign data and reduce workload for our bedside nurses, who currently are recording water and patient core temperatures by hand," stated Dr. Cook. "In all, I believe this technology will have the potential to greatly improve our clinical care of HIE patients and others within intensive care."
About the CNS Monitor & CNS Technology
